ISACA’s cybersecurity and governance certifications are industry standards and pay the highest salaries. This is in line our overall salary data. Cybersecurity, Governance Compliance and Policy certifications are the most sought-after worldwide and are associated to a global average salary $96,308, seven percentage above the average.
Here’s a list with the top five ISACA certifications (average salaries for North America):
1. CGEIT: Certified in Governance of Enterprise IT
Average salary: $137,050
CGEIT was expected to be the highest-paying certification in the United States, but it failed to meet the respondent threshold. CGEIT-certified professionals earn 25% higher than the average North American salary. It is 12th in the world with an average salary at $104,272.
CGEIT-certified professionals who are tenured tend to earn higher salaries. The exam requires at least five years experience in at least three areas of certification, including one year in the IT governance area.
2. CISM: Certified Information Security Manager
Average salary: $132,919
CISM ranks second in North American salaries and 17th globally (99,778). This credential is for information security managers. It focuses on security strategy and assessing policies and systems. You must have at least five years experience in IS, including three years as a security manager.
Many government agencies now require CISM certifications for their IS and IT professionals.

3. CRISC: Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control
Average salary: $128,556
CRISC is ranked eighth in North America in average salary and 14th globally. The average CRISC salary is 17% more than that of the average North American IT professional. CRISC is a cybersecurity credential for IT professionals, project managers, and others whose job is to identify and manage IT risks through Information Systems Controls.
Globally, 522 IT professionals hold their CRISC certification. This makes it the third most sought-after ISACA credential after CISM (934) and CISA (1,416).

4. CISA: Certified Information Systems Auditor
Average salary: $118,232
CISA ranks 12th in North America in average salary. It is also the most sought-after ISACA certification. CISA is ideal for those whose job responsibilities involve auditing, monitoring and controlling IT and business systems. The exam measures your ability to manage vulnerabilities.
CISA was established in 1978 and is the oldest ISACA certification. It requires at minimum five years of experience in information system auditing, control, or security.

5. COBIT 5 Foundation
Average salary: $114,949
This premier governance certification has a high North American income, but it did not meet the respondent threshold to be eligible for our top-paying lists. It does however meet the thresholds for Latin America (8th) and EMEA (12th). COBIT 5 provides a comprehensive framework to assist enterprises in achieving their goals for the governance and management enterprise IT.
